Planning The Christ Life
What might it take for you and me to get into spiritual shape? What would we have to do to become spiritually fit, to become a total person whose words, deed, and relationship grow more into the image of Jesus? Spiritual fitness means a daily devotion to the way and will of God. It is intentional commitment to sell out to God that help us not only to accept Christ, but to exercise Chirst as well. I don't only identify with Jesus, I exercise him as well. And it makes all the difference. It's called spiritual fitness - a disciplined devotion to the way of God.
Guarding Your Heart
Guarding your heart, protecting the eternal interior that God has created uniquely inside of you, is a God thing. Being careful with your character is a fundamental first step of spiritual fitness. What you let get inside of you either builds up your soul or tears down your reputation. What you allow yourself to think about, to dream about, to fantasize about will either take you to the mountain top or will send you down a sliding slope to the emabarrassment of yourself and the injury of those around you. Do you know how much of your spiritual fitness revolves around how you care for your core? There is amazing safety that comes from a well-ordered heart.
The Hardest Work Of Hope
Why does God make us wait? What God does in us while we wait is as important as what it is we are waiting for. Waiting is not just something we have to do until we get what we want. Waiting is part of the process of becoming what God wants us to be. The best attributes of your life are developed through a long, tedious process. So becoming spiritually fit is the marathon work of patience. Waiting on the Lord is a confident, disciplined, expectant, active, sometimes painful clinging to God.
Follow The Leader
Jesus says, "Follow me and I will make you...somebody". To be a follower of Jesus is to follow a promise that we can become someone whose life stands for something. Amazing things happen when God's people follow God's Son into God's future. To be a Christian means simply to be someone who is trying to follow Jesus. It doesn't necessarily mean I understand everything about Jesus. It does not mean that I have achieved perfection. But it does mean that I follow behind Jesus in my daily life.
The Risk Taker
God loves a risk taker. God loves nothing more than a risk taker because risk is the twin brother to trust. Risk is the flipside of trust. When we step out of the boat it's not that we test God, but we test our trust of God. When we go to failure it's not that we dare God but we dare our trust of God. We trust ...that all we see is not all there is. We trust ...that all we can do is not all that can be done. When we go to the end of our lines and then go one more step further, that is when the power begins. That's where miracles happen. Sometimes the only difference in failure and faith is what we put on the line for Jesus Christ.
