GLOBAL MISSIONS
Children of Zion
Cypress United Methodist Church is providing 100% funding for a feeding center for 116 Namibian AIDS orphans. It is called the Mafuta feeding center. This feeding center is run by The Children of Zion Village
The Children of Zion Village is a Christian home for orphans in the southern African nation of Namibia. It is located along the Zambezi River in the northeast corner of Namibia. Our children come from several different tribal and language groups.
The "village" opened in January, 2003 and is now home to 55 children. Most of the children have been placed in our care because they have lost their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to AIDS.
Here the boys and girls receive love, nutrition, shelter, healthcare, academic, vocational and Bible education, and become part of one large Christian family. Our missionaries, volunteers, and Namibian staff work together to raise the children in our "village".
Children of Zion has been caring for Namibian orphans since January, 2003. The local community and others in the region have seen the blessings these children have experienced, and have asked us to expand our ministry into other villages. The need is tremendous. Thousands of children in this region are without family and suffer from lack of shelter, lack of food, lack of healthcare, lack of education and lack of love.
The Mafuta Feeding Center provides one meal each school day for 116 orphans in the village of Mafuta. These children are identified by the village school personnel as having no other source of food. By pairing the feeding center with the school, the children have the incentive to be faithful in their school attendance. We also have a Christian preschool for orphans in Mafuta to introduce the youngest children to Jesus, and to help prepare them for school. These children also participate in the feeding program.
